It depends on what you're doing and where. Some work falls under permitted development and doesn't need a full application, but permitted development rights are more restricted in Malton's conservation area and don't apply at all to listed buildings. We'll give you a clear read on this at the first site visit before you spend money on drawings.

North Yorkshire Council. The old Ryedale District Council was absorbed into the new unitary authority in April 2023, so all applications, pre-app advice, and planning enquiries for Malton now go through North Yorkshire Council.

Most householder applications get a decision within eight weeks of validation. Larger or more complex applications, listed building consent, and anything in the conservation area can take longer, typically twelve to thirteen weeks.
